The words I have chosen here are all connected to my life in the Altai Mountains. I spent much of my childhood in the Fuyun region of Xinjiang, in the far north of the Altai Mountains, before I moved with my family to Altai to live next to nomadic Kazakh herders. In Altai, nature was bathed in white... On cloudy days, I saw the world pure white and bright. On bright days, I used to see it shining in white mixed with the blue of the sky. On some days, the temperature drops to more than forty degrees Celsius below zero, and heavy snow blocks the windows, plunging the place into darkness.
