Our grandmothers; The richness of memory is a glow that will never go out

My grandmother, Halima Muhammad Abdel-Hay, daughter of Abi Shaliyya, inspired me to search for our grandmothers in each of our extended homes, our grandmothers, the richness of our collective memory.

There is a sweetheart in every home. She inspired and watered the buds of our childhood. She illuminated our paths with wisdom, insight and insights. She crystallized our consciousness so that we were; Little granddaughters...we grew up following their paths, and some of us have granddaughters whose steps we follow.

The granddaughters wrote about their grandmothers, writing with the ink of the soul and the sweetness of memories. Their tears trickled from Sudan, Eritrea, Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Palestine, Libya, Yemen, Saudi Arabia and Lebanon, pouring into the Nile. Their stories... the stories of grandmothers, their torments, their sorrows; Their wisdom; Their tender tears, and their wisdom

It manifested itself in the reflections of their reality.

Stories that chronicle not only grandmothers, but also their reality and their low, high intensity.

This book is the result of one of the creative writing workshops of the Mandi Girls Arts Network, which is run from the Austrian capital, Vienna, transcending borders. You will find the windows open just like the grandmothers’ stories that the granddaughters have memorized and written.

Documentation that indicates the grandmothers’ early awareness.
